Your labels deserve maximum longevity and exceptional quality! Lamination increases the resistance of your labels, protects them against abrasion and makes them more durable. Film lamination is particularly recommended for products that are frequently handled. The matte or glossy film, which repels dirt and moisture, is often used in the cosmetics, chemical or beverage industries. What’s more, lamination gives your products a special value, enhancing their advertising impact. But it’s not just the look of your labels that’s improved, their feel is too.

What is lamination?
When laminating, printed substrates such as paper or film are covered with a plastic film. At labelletiquette.fr, lamination is applied to the label using a process known as “wet lamination“. This means that our laminating is not self-adhesive, but is applied to the labels using a liquid glue. Using pressure, UV light and glue, the matte or gloss film adheres to the label.
In addition, the film should be chosen according to the substrate: for a glossy substrate, a glossy film is recommended. If you opt for a matte material, we recommend a matte film.

Lamination or protective varnish?!
Your label deserves extra protection! You can choose between lamination and protective varnish.
As an alternative to our film lamination, which protects against abrasion, oil and moisture and makes your labels more resistant, we offer a matte or gloss protective varnish. Our protective varnish offers enhanced protection against abrasion. When applying the protective varnish, a liquid varnish is first applied to the surface of your labels, then dried. We generally recommend the use of a protective varnish. For particular constraints and irritations, laminating is more suitable than protective varnish. As metallic labels are more sensitive to abrasion, they should always be laminated.
Take advantage of our Premium proof print to test both finishes with protective function. If you opt for a proofing service, we produce a small quantity of laminated labels under actual printing conditions. So you can be sure that the result is exactly what you expect.
Special features of laminating
It should be noted that protective varnish is compatible with our finishes such as relief embossing or blind embossing whereas lamination cannot be combines with the above-mentioned finishes.
What’s more, labels with protective varnish can be overprinted at a later date using a thermal transfer printer, whereas laminating is not suitable for this type of printing.
Materials and adhesives for laminated labels
Our online calculator offers you a range of different materials. Most coated substrates are suitable for lamination, with the exception of natural or textured papers. In addition to paper labels, film labels can also be laminated. We also offer various sustainable solutions for your labels with additional protection.
Depending on the intended use of your laminated labels, you’ll need the right adhesive. We offer you labels with permanent adhesive, repositionable labels and freezer-grade labels, among others. If you’d like to test the substrates and adhesive strength of your laminated label beforehand, we recommend that you first request our free sample book.

Refined labels with labelletiquette.fr: your possibilities
If you opt for laminated labels, other finishing options are also available. As explained above, laminating and protective varnishing are finishes with protective properties. There are also other traditional decorative finishes: hot foil stamping, relief embossing and blind embossing. However, only hot foil stamping is compatible with film lamination.

Digital finishes
Labels with digital selective varnish can also be laminated. This selective varnish is a transparent varnish that is applied to specific areas of the label to highlight certain elements. The finish is applied without the use of tools and is therefore not part of the traditional finishing process.
Production, shipping and labelling
Laminated label printing can be a time-consuming process. But it doesn’t have to be! Production and delivery times are shown directly in the online calculator on labelletiquette.fr. In some cases, you can opt for express production, which means you’ll receive your labels with extra protection even faster. Please note that production times may be delayed, for example, due to incorrect print files or tool manufacturing. We also offer various shipping options.
Once your laminated labels have been produced and delivered, they are automatically, semi-automatically or manually labeled. Please note that when ordering labels on rolls with lamination, you must indicate the correct winding direction so that you can label correctly afterwards.
