Oil labels – requirements
Labels have three main functions:
- Informative character
- Decorative character
- Promotional character
The design of a product and its label are not the only important elements. An oil label must, above all, inform the customer about the ingredients, the filling quantity or the manufacturer’s instructions. Labels for oils must therefore meet specific requirements. Labels used in the chemical and cosmetics industries, or in the food sector, must be particularly robust and resistant to oil, dirt and temperature. Even in an oily and polluted environment, the information on the label must remain clearly legible after a certain period of time, without degradation.

Oil-resistant labels – our substrates
At labelletiquette.fr, we offer you a wide choice of materials for printing your oil labels. It’s important to us to meet our customers’ needs. That’s why we stock structured papers, films and various sustainable materials. For oils, vinegar, cosmetics or even chemicals, we recommend film labels. They are resistant and easy to clean, without leaving oil stains or dirt on the labels. But even if you prefer paper labels, we’ve got just what you need. Our Rustique Blanc paper is also available in an oleophobic version under the name Rustique Blanc Greaseproof, making it ideal for oil labels.
Do you need a specific material? In addition to our 15+ standard substrates, we have many other special substrates in stock. You can get an initial idea of our choice of materials, finishing options and print quality by ordering our free sample book. You can easily detach the sample die-cut labels it contains and stick them on your product as a test. This way, you’ll find out which substrate is best suited to your applications and requirements.
If you haven’t found what you’re looking for in our calculator or our overview of materials, please don’t hesitate to contact us. If you wish, we can order certain brackets for you.
Embellish your oil labels
Both our film labels and our Rustique Blanc Greaseproof paper lend themselves perfectly to an additional finish. Hot foil stamping, for example, gives your oil labels a particularly elegant appearance. You’ll stand out from the competition.
For even better label protection, we always recommend coating with a protective varnish. You get the best label protection with a dirt- and moisture-resistant lamination. This protects your labels from excessive abrasion, protects them from moisture and gives your product an even more individual design.
