What are alternating labels?
Ordering your labels alternately means that your labels and back labels will be printed alternately or consecutively on the same roll in a single run. This method is particularly suitable if you want to apply your labels mechanically in a single pass. If you need both a label and a back label on your product, we suggest that on your roll, the front and back labels follow each other, so that our labels fit in with your production line.
Here’s how to correctly create your alternating labels:
- Creating a print file: For alternate label production, you need to create the front and back labels on a common work surface. The best way to do this is to use a design program such as Adobe Illustrator.
- Define width and height: Add the two widths, label and back label, and add 5mm for the spacing between the two labels. This gives you the final width of the document. The height, on the other hand, is determined by the highest height (of either the front label or the back label).
For example: Your front label is 90 mm wide and your back label is 80 mm wide.
Width calculation: 90 mm + 80 mm + 5 mm (spacing between labels) = 175 mm
Your front label is 100 mm high, your back label is 90 mm high. The height of the document should therefore be 100 mm (highest height). - Label orientation: The orientation of the labels (side by side) depends on how they will be applied to the product during labeling.
- Sample file: For better understanding, we’ve created a sample file in PDF format. This file represents the layout and alignment of the labels on your work surface.
Note: As alternate labels are created on a single print file, they are considered as one label design. For example, if you specify 1,000 labels as the total quantity, we will produce 1,000 labels and 1,000 back labels, as specified on the print file.
