A new trend: wine in cans

Perfect for a picnic or festival, to test wines without committing to a whole bottle, or to have the equivalent of a glass or two without worrying about finishing the rest of the bottle. Canned wine is definitely in vogue because of its convenience.

Already popular in the U.S. since 2016, they haven’t stopped gaining popularity. A growing market means growing competition. It’s time to set yourself apart from the competition.

Aluminum and recycling

Aluminum cans can be recycled when they are properly collected and processed through suitable recycling streams. Did you know that every year, around 9.591 billion aluminum beverage cans are produced in France, 75% of which are recycled?

Recycling aluminum wine cans allows the aluminum to be reused as a raw material for new products.

Aluminum cans recycled in France are melted down and transformed into aluminum ingots, which are then used to manufacture new cans. This is known as closed-loop recycling, as old cans come in and the metal needed to make new cans goes out. A used can, if recycled, could be back on the shelf as another can in just 60 days!

Wine cans are also significantly lighter than glass bottles, which can reduce the weight transported. Recycling aluminum also helps avoid the production of primary aluminum.

Wine can labels

Custom printing of wine can labels on rolls is an extremely cost-effective way of branding your beverages. Printing directly onto cans using a method known as screen printing is usually quite expensive for short runs; digital label printing offers a flexible solution.

Thanks to digital printing, we can produce your labels without using printing plates. As the printing machine doesn’t require long lead times, it only works when it’s actually producing.

Polypropylene can labels (PP film)

Polypropylene is an impermeable polymer material widely used in the beverage industry. Polypropylene is available as white, silver or clear film, all suitable for printing high-quality wine can labels. White PP film is suitable for high-impact color printing and graphics. Silver and transparent materials can be used to create a “no-label” look. These substrates can be used to simulate the screen-printing technology mentioned above. So, not only is canned wine a practical alternative to traditional glass bottles, but the labels can be just as creative and dynamic as conventional wine labels.

For a brilliant print, we also offer the option of printing an opaque white (HPI-White) layer on the labels as an undercoat, if it is included in your print file.
