The psychology of glitter and shine
Why choose labels with a high-end finish?
The psychology of glitter and shine.
An eye-catching label is essential! If your product doesn’t stand out on the shelf, it’s hard to make it stand out. But once you’ve succeeded in attracting attention, that’s where it all begins: the psychological process of consumer perception.

We unconsciously choose
Research has shown that in a store where similar items from different brands are displayed side by side, something special happens. First of all, we mainly perceive the luxury-looking items. Immediately afterwards, we associate the high-end appearance of these items with quality, and judge the high-end product as qualitatively superior to other brands, even if the product itself is identical to a competitor’s in less luxurious packaging. Psychology speaks of the “halo effect” when we judge a product positively on the basis of an external characteristic.
Your senses make the choice for you
But there are other psychological processes that unconsciously lead us to choose more luxurious products. This is the case when we touch the relief on a label. The physical contact stimulates our senses and creates an emotional bond with the product. As a result, we are more inclined to choose the product and even pay more for it.
What’s more, other sensory perceptions can also evoke a positive association and therefore encourage sales. Think of smell and taste, but also sound. Some well-known examples of applications in stores: the smell of freshly baked bread, the offer of pieces of cheese or sausage to taste and, of course, calm background music, which relaxes visitors and encourages them to take a leisurely look at the collection. It’s also proven that these sensory experiences lead to increasingly expensive purchases.

Conclusion: always opt for a luxurious finish!
Based on positive visual and tactile experiences, your customers will unconsciously choose a brand with a luxury label, and also accept a higher price for the product. That’s the power of a luxury finishing!
