How does digital selective varnish work?
With this digital finish, selected areas are covered with a transparent, glossy varnish that enhances them. Your print file allows you to define the exact location of the varnish.
Unlike conventional finishing, labels with digital spot varnish require no special tools, as the finish is applied digitally. As no tools are required, it’s a fast, economical alternative to traditional finishes such as hot foil stamping, embossing or relief embossing.

When setting up your files, please note that the elements and fonts to be embellished with digital varnish for your roll labels must have a minimum line thickness of 0.3 mm, and a space of at least 0.7 mm between elements to achieve a qualitative result.
Manufacturing: digitally finished labels
Labels with digital varnish require no special tools, as the finish is applied digitally. However, as with traditional finishes, production-related variations may occur. Added to this is the fact that substrate-related peculiarities can occur: varnish applied to a label substrate with a porous surface can run. This is why textured papers are not suitable for labels with digital spot varnish.

Traditional finishes as an alternative
Digital spot varnish highlights certain elements by covering them with a transparent gloss varnish. Of course, your label can also be embellished with traditional finishes that produce similar effects: labelletiquette.fr offers hot foil stamping, blind embossing or relief embossing.
If you opt for hot foil stamping as an alternative or in addition, a film is applied to certain areas using a tool (without partial deformation). We offer films in different colors and with different effects. Embossing involves partial deformation of the label. Another option is relief embossing, which combines embossing and hot foil stamping: certain areas of the label are not only deformed, but also covered with a foil.
Compared with traditional finishes, digital varnish is considered economical, as it requires no tools for production. It should be noted that spot varnish produces only limited visual and tactile effects, similar to traditional finishes. For complex effects, we recommend traditional finishes. Our selective varnish is transparent, which limits the colors available. This can be compensated for by the choice of background color.
Extra protection
Lamination and protective varnish are both protective finishing options. The protective varnish not only gives your label a more high-quality and visually enhanced surface, but also protects it against abrasion. Lamination consists of applying a transparent film rather than a varnish to the label in order to protect it against heavy abrasion.
However, not all lamination options are compatible with our printing: only the scratch-resistant version can be used. The protective varnish, on the other hand, is compatible and not only gives your label a more high-quality and visually enhanced surface, but also protects it against abrasion.
