What is sandwich printing?
Sandwich printing involves printing several layers on a transparent label so that the inside of the back label can be seen through the bottle and its contents. This effect is achieved with a transparent front label on PP film, allowing the user to look through. Or with a cut-out in the front label, through which you can see inside the bottle.
With a sandwich-printed transparent label (also known as a “double-sided label”), you get a unique effect that tells the story of your product in a very special way. This special production method is particularly popular for spirits labels. Sandwich labels can, of course, also be finished with additional hot foil stamping. In this case, the hot foil color is only visible on the top side, while the reverse side is silver.

How does sandwich printing work?
We explain how sandwich printing is practically implemented using our specially designed sandwich label (with which, incidentally, we won the HP Inkspiration Award 2018) :
- The front label is a label on a transparent PP film.
- For the back label, we used sandwich printing: two CMYK prints were separated by a double-printed opaque white (HPI-White). Please note: Depending on the design you require, the opaque white layers may not provide 100% coverage. In all cases, please contact our customer service department for detailed advice on the possibilities and limitations of sandwich printing.
- Looking through the front label, the first level of the sandwich label can be seen through a cage adorned with gold hot stamping. The legal information is separated from the bird by the opaque white layer and can be read from the rear.
