What is FSC®?
The FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®) is an international, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization created in 1993 following the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. Its aim is to manage the world’s forests in a way that meets the needs of the present generation without compromising the future of generations to come.
FSC® principles
The FSC® has defined globally uniform basic principles for responsible forest management. Standards are thus developed, and implementation and marketing opportunities are derived for the forest products generated. The most important instrument for marketing is certainly the FSC® label, the use of which is strictly regulated and must be approved by FSC®. Management standards are in turn adapted at national level to the conditions and possibilities of each country, to enable and guarantee optimal implementation.
These ten principles include respecting laws, contracts and agreements, protecting workers’ rights and working conditions, maintaining the economic viability of the forest, and monitoring management measures. What does FSC® certified mean?
The FSC® label certifies that the wood used comes from FSC®-certified forests, and thus from sustainable, environmentally-friendly forest management. Once again, there are three certification variants:
FSC® 100%: products are made entirely from FSC®-certified materials.
FSC® Mix: products are made from materials sourced from well-managed, FSC®-certified forests and other controlled sources.
FSC® Recycled: products are made entirely from recycled materials.
In addition, only FSC®-certified companies are authorized to advertise and label their products with the FSC® label.
FSC® and labelletiquette.fr
Almost all labelletiquette.fr papers are FSC® Mix certified. To find out exactly which papers are certified, consult the calculator. All certified materials are marked “FSC® Mix Credit”. You can also choose between recyclable and recycled materials. Sustainability and the conservation of resources are not our only concerns when it comes to materials.
