Eco-friendly materials

Are you looking for eco-friendly labels? But you don't know which material to choose? We've got the answer right here.

Team2026-04-17

Ecology and sustainability are hot topics, even in the packaging industry. The demand for sustainable materials is growing all the time, and our customers are looking for ecological and environmentally-friendly materials. Are you looking for an eco-friendly label material, but are overwhelmed by the amount of information available? Look no further, we’ve got the answers!

Our ecological media

As a label printer, it’s our duty to contribute to a more sustainable world, and to meet the growing demand for environmentally-friendly materials in the packaging sector. That’s why we’re adding more and more sustainable materials to our range. This means we can offer you the best possible choice of materials to suit your needs, whether you opt for a standard materials or a sustainable variant.

Grass paper

Among our eco-friendly media, we’d first like to introduce you to our grass paper. This paper is made from 30% sun-dried grass fibers (hay) and 70% FSC-certified paper, making it particularly environmentally friendly, recyclable and even compostable*. A label on grass paper is particularly convincing for its special structure, with the individual grass fibers still visible.

* The grass base paper can be described as compostable. The finished label with the adhesive layer does not meet the 90% compostable share required to issue a certificate in accordance with DIN EN 13432, but the share is around 81%. For further information on the compostability of grass paper labels, please contact our customer service department.

PE film from cane sugar

Eco-friendly vinyl film? Does it exist? Yes, there is. Our biosourced polyethylene film is made from 83% sugarcane fibers, and can be used like any other material. So you can customize it just like any other conventional label. Applications are mainly for household cleaning products and cosmetics. Thanks to its flexibility, the product is particularly suitable for squeezable bottles and other flexible containers.

Paper rNaturel White

Our third paper is called rNaturel White. It’s a wood-free, white, uncoated, 100% recycled printing paper. This FSC®-certified recycled paper has a finely felted finish. This product is designed for wine labeling and is suitable for primary labeling of high-end products, such as spirits and specialty foods.

Recycled Coat

Our fourth material is called Recycled Coat. This is a white, coated, mid-gloss paper using 99% post-consumer recycled fibers. The fact that the product contains recycled paper fibers helps to preserve forests.

FSC-certified papers

Many of our papers are also FSC-certified. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) promotes ecologically appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable forest management. Take a look at our online calculator to check which materials are FSC-certified!

Separating the packaging from the label when recycling can also make a positive contribution to sustainable packaging management. That’s why labelletiquette.fr offers labels that can be repositioned, for example, or removed with water. Labels and packaging can then be recycled separately.

We keep a close eye on new trends and developments in the printing industry, and are constantly working to improve the materials we offer and our production processes, in order to provide you with ever more sustainable products. By offering sustainable materials as alternatives to traditional ones, we’re taking the first step in the right direction towards sustainability in label printing. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. Our customer service team will be happy to advise you further.

Additional information

  • Our media are not compostable. When we talk about composting, we need to differentiate between industrial composting (under standardized and constant conditions) and the composting we know from garden compost, for example. Since a label is always a composite product made up of an adhesive and a face material, our labels cannot, unfortunately, be composted via domestic composting at present.
  • Although our grass-based paper face is inherently compostable, it is unfortunately not currently available in combination with a compostable adhesive. However, suppliers of this medium are currently working hard to develop compostable solutions.
  • Unfortunately, the suppliers we source from do not currently offer a vegan adhesive + backing combination. However, our HP Indigo inks are vegan.
