Protective varnish or laminate?

Protective varnish

The need for additional protection for your label depends on many factors, and varies from label to label. As a general rule, however, we always recommend finishing with an additional protective varnish, either matte or glossy.

Labels-with-protective-varnish

This protects the label against (“normal”) abrasion. Despite the protective varnish on the label, subsequent mechanical processing poses no problem. What’s more, in principle, a label with a protective coating is also suitable for thermal transfer printing. But this always depends on the material chosen and the machine you use to process the labels. But beware: protective varnish can lead to color differences.

Laminating

As an alternative to protective varnish, we can also apply a matte or gloss foil lamination to your label. This means that an additional layer of laminate is applied to the material (preferably PP film as the base material), which protects your labels even better from color wear or even moisture. We particularly recommend laminating for products in the cosmetics or chemical sectors.

To make sure you choose the right finish, we always recommend proofing service your label design with a protective varnish or laminate. Any questions? You can reach us by phone on +33 (0)4 81 68 19 73 or by e-mail at info@labelletiquette.fr. We’ll be delighted to help!
